Sonny is a Partner with HHMO.
Sonny was born and raised in Southeastern Utah and later moved to the Wasatch Front in 1992 to attend Weber State University. Sonny graduated from Weber State University with a B.S. Degree in Health Services Administration. Thereafter, Sonny attended the University of Utah Executive Master of Business Program. In 2001, Sonny left a successful career in Program/Project Management in Utah County's bustling .com industry to join the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Committee. Sonny was integral in the build-up of The Peaks Ice Areana and E-Center hockey arena during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, as well as direct oversight of 100 + Volunteers/Technicians at the Peaks Ice Arena during the 2002 Games.
In 2003 Sonny attended the University of Iowa Law School in Iowa City, Iowa on a merit based scholarship, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 2006. While in Iowa, Sonny was privileged to be a research assistant for the esteemed Willard Sandy Boyd, President Emeritus of the University of Iowa. Sonny also worked with President Boyd on the Iowa Governor's non-profit task force, which included assisting President Boyd in his remarks in Washington, D.C. to the Senate Committee overseeing President Bush's Faith Based Initiative.
Sonny and his wife and family moved home to Utah in 2006, where he started the firm Heugly & Olsen. After building a successful general practice, Sonny merged his firm with the Provo, Utah based firm Ascione, Heideman & McKay in 2008. Thereafter, in 2009, Sonny became an equity partner with the emergence of the new firm - Heideman, McKay, Heugly & Olsen.
Sonny and his wife of nine years have three lovely children and they reside in Payson, Utah. The family enjoys riding motorcycles and ATVs as well as fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors.
Sonny enjoys complex litigation, which includes criminal and civil trial experience, securities litigation, arbitration, tax and estate planning, and personal injury litigation. In 2007, Sonny was privileged to assist the victims of the Crandall Canyon Mine Disaster as their spokesman and legal counsel in the subsequent civil suit. In addition to assisting as co-counsel in the Crandall Canyon matter, Sonny has taken active steps to advocate for mine safety, including a trip to Washington D.C. where he and his colleagues, and the victim's families, worked with Senate and House Committees on mine safety.
